The CHRISTmas I Remember Most

I remember many CHRISTmases as I was growing up,

The ones that filled my arms with gifts and a special one with a pup.

I recall those days with decorations of pine boughs and red bows,

And sneaking down the flight of stairs on my tippy toes.

I remember CHRISTmas Eve when I first learned to give,

A gift I chose for someone close, sharing love without motive.

My memory is full of CHRISTmas sweets, cookies, candies, the such,

Those stacked-with-mountains-of-meringue pies we were instructed not to touch.

But filtering through the the smell of a live tree, and the wheel of color upon it

Are memories of loss close to the day of celebrating, tarnishing the moment.

As I felt the sadness of one particular loss, that burdened my heart with tears,

I thought of the moment that created this season, so long ago in years.

Jesus came to light the earth and chase away the darkness,

HE came because HE loved us with a love that is completely ageless.

Unending joy through salvation is what HE came to offer,

Worth so much more to each of us than the almighty dollar.

Once I understood the import of this Blessed season,

Never again could I be depressed or even find a reason,

To withdraw from the joy of this sweet baby boy, who came to give his life

To each of us an abundant delight, in knowing eternity without strife.

HE came to give us everything, so we can focus on all that is good.

And although we feel pain or unable to give when feeling we should,

Christ only asks we remember the reason HE came to earth is the same

Today as it was then ~ HIS love for us? HIS actions will always proclaim.

So amidst the joy of giving and the beauty of lights, trees and bows,

The CHRISTmas of all the CHRISTmases that I remember most,

Is not due to the pain of loss or a special bright, colored gift,

The CHRISTmas I remember most is one that always uplifts.

I had heard the story of Jesus’ birth from whence I was a child,

But it really hit home, to the depths of my heart,  a heart so tender and mild,

When Jesus forgave me all of my sins and wrote my name in HIS book.

I hold the moment dear as it changed my life and my outlook.

So now though there are still times when I can’t give as I would like,

And days of sorrow near this season, when I feel the loss of a life,

I am reminded of HIS gift to all of us here and know that HE is near,

And all I need is in HIS hands and I hold the season dear.

Merry CHRISTmas.  I love you but Jesus loves you more.

  1. As I read your words, a song from long ago sprung to my mind.

Jesus Jesus, Jesus, there’s just something about that name
Master, Savior, Jesus, Let all heaven and earth proclaim!
Kings and kingdoms, shall all pass away, but there’s something about that name. . .

Bet ya sang it in your head as you read it. Now, go get ya praise on 😉 And Merry CHRISTmas! ❤ ❤ ❤
